Description: Founded in 2003, the SOPACDI Cooperative in the Democratic Republic of the Congo consists of more than 5,600 farmers. 20 percent of these farmers are women, many of them widows. Through its female empowerment programs, a percentage per pound on the sale of SOPACDI’s coffee contributes to committees and small business ventures run by women. After years of conflict and civil war, their fair trade-certified coffee promotes working together for a better future for farmers in Congo.
